MARDI GRAS .... OCTOBER 23 2012 ....
What do these two things have in common. Come on now put your thinking caps on. You haven't forgotten where you put your thinking caps have you?
Halloween - which is just around the corner. Costumes, trick and treating, parties, decorations, some spooky, some really pretty. But it is a time to 'play dress-up' as you did when you were kids. Pretending to be someone else, even if just for a little while.
Mardi Gras - a little further away. Supposedly a religious celebration, the time to 'freak out' before the season of lent begins. The religious part doesn't start until Mardi Gras if over. A lot of folks 'get religion' after twenty-four hours of partying.
What do the two have in common. Come on now, what do they?
Both celebrations, for want of a better word, entails dress-up. Supposedly no one will know who you are when you are dressed up. So anything goes. Sometimes the anything goes way to far.
Vicki and I, when we were in San Diego prior to our cruise to Hawaii, saw their Italian Festival and their version of Mardi Gras. It was fun. It was funny. There was great music, fascinating costumes, and no one being obnoxious. It was just a fun evening. I don't know what New Orleans Mardi Gras is like - I have never been - but from all I've seen it gets pretty wild. That's all I can say.
I much prefer San Diego's Italian Party/Mardi Gras.
So Halloween is just about here. Keep safe, enjoy and God Bless.
