THERE IS WIND, and then, THERE IS WIND....FEBRUARY 01 2012

What do I know about wind.  Not a whole lot, except I recognize wind when I feel it and see it.

Where we live on our hilltop, we live smack dab in the middle of a wind tunnel.  Not kidding.  We get the full benefit of the wind.  There is a breeze in the valley, there is a hurricane on top of the hill.

I kid you not.

Three years ago we had a deck added to the front of our house, and had the roof on the house replaced at the same time.  Because of the wind up here our builder guy suggested hurricane strength shingles for the roof.  Costs more.  But would stay.  So we said o.k.

We had wind this past weekend.  Really really lots of wind.  House shook there was so much wind.  Some areas lost power, luckily we didn't lose power, but we lost shingles from our roof.  Found them in the front yard.  Hurricane strength shingles, guaranteed not to come off unless a really really really bad hurricane.  Ours came off.

Called our builder guy.  He is coming out to replace the shingles that are missing.  I can just imagine him just shaking his head when Jerry told him the shingles blew off.  No one in this area gets hurricane strength winds.  But us.

Maybe he should bring a very very big roll of duct tape with him, and duct tape the shingles to the house.  Of course he would have to run the tape down onto the house.  I see two possible problems with that.

First the shingles would come off taking the siding on the house along with them.

Second the tape would have to go clear to the ground, and that could make it very difficult opening and closing doors.

We could use chicken wire over the entire roof, and fasten it under the eves.  Then the roof would probably come off when the shingles left.

We could move to the valley.  That's where the creeks (cricks as many call them) are, and they have a tendency to flood.  We would have a very good roof over a house full of water.

I am open to all suggestions.  I know our builder guy is open to suggestions.  Chances are we would finally get a roof that would withstand the wind we get, then a tornado that would take the house and an intact roof would be left laying on the ground, minus the house.

Otherwise everything fine and dandy.  At least as of right now there are no leaks appearing, so hopefully it will be fixed before we get any more hard rain.

Got to get cracking, if you never hear from me again you will know that I am in the Land of Oz.  Is that better than being down the Rabbit Hole?  In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed and God Bless.
